Happy Weekend, GLG-ers.
I want this Forum to get you inspired and thinking about sustainability and creativity in a new way. I wanted to open the floor up to questions on sustainable clothing. In light of Earth Day and Fashion Revolution Week I want to know: why is sustainability important to you? Not just in your apparel, but in everything else too: food, products, the way you balance your life "sustainably". Why is having sustainability in your life a must? Take the weekend, feel free to respond and chat with each other, and let's get this Forum going! xx - AB
Sustainability is important to me because we've been taught our whole lives that if we want something, we just have to use money and buy it. We don't need to live in excess, despite being taught this.
I'm just learning more and more about sustainability now but I've been able to make some pretty simple swaps in my life to live more sustainably. ie. eating primarily plant-based, thrifting and not buying things just because. Everything I do in life is now done with purpose.
I love that, Kierstyn! I think that's such a key component to sustainability; that even though we may have the ability to buy buy buy, we don't have to. I used to use shopping or buying as therapy, and I've been thinking about sustainability in that way. It's important for me to have good mental health and good feelings towards purchases, and I think my impulse buying from years back would say otherwise about myself (but I try not to beat myself up over it anymore; I didn't know any better)! So sustainability is important to me because now I do know better. And if I know better, then I should act on it :). Thank you for participating! It means so so much to me xo.
I really really love that. Not beating your past self up because you really didn't know but once you've learned, you know better.
I can definitely relate to the whole "shopping as therapy" thing and sometimes I still catch myself doing it but it's definitely gotten better. I've started putting together more of a capsule wardrobe rather than buying new clothes every season. I feel a lot better about my carefully thought-out purchases now and I've also learned to love things that are used. They've got more love in them than people realize.
I really love this forum. It's giving me a lot to think about!
@Kierstyn Paré I am so impressed by capsule wardrobes. That would be a great thing to talk about and add some advice on. I'm not 100% experienced in it so I would love to learn from anyone who has tried it! Would you feel comfortable speaking to your experience for the next forum question?? :) We can even make it open to Insta!
